Enthusiastic Celebration of the 103rd Anniversary of Victory

The 103rd anniversary of the August 30th Victory Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Bornova with a concert by Oğuz Aksaç organized by Bornova Municipality.
The event, held at Aşık Veysel Recreation Area Amphitheater, began with a performance by the Bornova Municipality Turkish Folk Music Choir. Under the direction of conductor Salih Sütoğlu, the choir performed beloved folk songs with great mastery, delivering emotional moments to the audience.
In the grand finale, the powerful voice of Turkish Folk Music, renowned artist Oğuz Aksaç, took the stage. The people of Bornova, who sang along to his songs in unison, carried the joy of Victory Day to its peak. The night was filled with halay dances, marches, and heartfelt displays of unity and solidarity.
Eşki: “We Celebrate the Holiday of Our Glorious History”
Thanking artist Oğuz Aksaç and the citizens of Bornova for their participation, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki said:
“In the city of republicans, in Atatürk’s city, our beautiful Bornova, we are experiencing the pride and joy of celebrating the August 30 Victory Day together. How fortunate we are to have a history to be proud of, victories to be celebrated, and holidays to welcome with joy. Dear Oğuz Aksaç describes his concerts as a ‘journey,’ a ‘voyage’ from east to west… Tonight, we are listening to the most beautiful reflections of our history and culture through his interpretation. I sincerely thank you all for joining and sharing in this enthusiasm.”
A 20-Year Dream Came True: Oğuz Aksaç in Bornova
Mayor Eşki also expressed that he had fulfilled a long-time dream:
“Twenty years ago, I dreamed of becoming the Mayor of Bornova. Today, I am working step by step to realize the dreams I had for this city. Dear Oğuz Aksaç once asked, ‘Who has listened to me before?’ I first listened to him in 2006 at a dinner organized by the CHP Çiğli District Organization. At that time, I was the Secretary of the Provincial Youth Branch. A very young and powerful voice named Oğuz Aksaç came to the dinner. It was the first time I heard him, and I was captivated by his voice and interpretation. That day, I said to myself: if I ever become the Mayor of Bornova, I will make sure Oğuz Aksaç performs for the people of Bornova. Thankfully, today we realized that dream. Dear artist, with your magnificent voice, your great heart, and your interpretations, you brought great honor to Bornova. Thank you very much.”
Wreath Laying Ceremony
The August 30 Victory Day events continued with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Atatürk Monument in Bornova Republic Square. The ceremony was attended by İzmir Deputy Governor Gökay Özkan, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki, and Acting Garrison Commander Artillery Colonel Tufan Duran. Afterward, participants visited the Police Martyrs’ Cemetery in Işıkkent to honor fallen heroes. At noon, the CHP District Organization also laid a wreath at the Atatürk Monument to commemorate Victory Day.
