Beneficiaries and their families have expressed their satisfaction, while Mayor Ömer Eşki described these efforts as “the compassionate hand of the municipality,” stating that with the newly established Directorate of Disabled and Elderly Services, both the scope and quality of these services will continue to expand.

The Directorate of Disabled and Elderly Services, recently established by Bornova Municipality, continues to provide hope to elderly and disabled residents in need through its long-standing Home Care Service. Specialized teams not only deliver physical care but also provide human connection and social support, improving overall quality of life.

From Barber Services to Bathing, From Healthcare to Mother-and-Baby Monitoring

Dedicated teams within the Directorate provide in-home barber and bathing services for elderly and disabled individuals. Personal care is carried out regularly, while midwives monitor the health of pregnant women with disabilities and babies aged 0–3.

Teams from the Health Affairs Directorate provide numerous free services, including blood pressure and glucose monitoring, physiotherapy support, ambulance services, and medical equipment assistance.

“These Are Incredible Services; We Are Grateful”

Residents and their families benefiting from the services have expressed their appreciation for Bornova Municipality.

İsmail Ötenbülbül, who receives home care services for his mother, shared his thoughts:
“We truly appreciate these services provided by the municipality. If we had to obtain them privately, it would cost an enormous amount. Bornova Municipality does more than collect waste or build roads. These kinds of social supports are very special and significant. Having professionals come to bathe my mother and trim her nails is incredible. We are deeply grateful.”

92-Year-Old Suzan: “May God Bless Our Mayor”

Ninety-two-year-old Suzan Ötenbülbül emotionally recalled her meeting with Mayor Ömer Eşki:
“They said he is as sweet as sugar. I wanted to see him. He came with his wife and kissed my hand. Such a polite person… The ambulance service is a great blessing for us. We also receive physiotherapy support. May God bless him.”

“It Feels Like We’ve Known Them for Years”

Metin Yenikapılı, brother of 61-year-old Mine Yeni Kapılı, who has been disabled since birth, stated that they have been benefiting from the Home Care Service for 12–13 years:

“They used to care for my sister and our late father. Only during the pandemic was there a necessary pause. The care is excellent. Health checks are conducted, they spend time talking with us, and they inform us in advance. Diapers and medical supplies are also provided. They even take care of things we don’t think of ourselves. These services are delivered in a true family atmosphere.”

“We Never Hear ‘No’ to Our Requests”

Ibrahim Güvenç (64), who also benefits from the service, said, “We thank our Mayor for providing this opportunity,” while his wife Leman Güvenç highlighted the barber service, expressing gratitude to Bornova Municipality and Mayor Ömer Eşki for all the support given to disabled patients.

Bekir Altaş (69) shared his satisfaction by saying, “They meet all our needs; we are very pleased,” and his sister Nesrin Altaş added, “They even bring our meals. The service is excellent.”

Mayor Eşki: “A Requirement of the Social State”

Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that the Directorate of Disabled and Elderly Services is one of the most concrete examples of social municipalism:

“Not leaving our elderly and disabled citizens alone is a requirement of being a social state and one of our fundamental responsibilities. Home Care Service is not merely a care service; it is solidarity and a bond of compassion. We do not leave anyone alone with their fate. In Bornova, everyone will feel safe, valued, and never alone.”
