Bornova Belediyesi organized “Basic Disaster Awareness” trainings in schools during Earthquake Week to strengthen earthquake and disaster awareness among students. During the training sessions, students were informed about what to do before, during, and after disasters. Ömer Eşki emphasized that being prepared for disasters saves lives.

The training program, conducted by the Municipality’s Disaster Affairs and Risk Management Directorate, was held in several schools across the district. Within the program, disaster awareness sessions were organized for students at İzmir Özel Türk Koleji Bornova Kampüsü, Suphi Koyuncuoğlu Ortaokulu, Fatih Sultan Mehmet İlkokulu, Gülsefa Kapancıoğlu Anadolu Lisesi, and Kent Koleji. A total of 1,000 students participated in the trainings.

At the session held at İzmir Özel Türk College Bornova Campus, Disaster Affairs and Risk Management Director Sinan Can Öziçer provided comprehensive information on basic disaster awareness. He explained the importance of preparedness before disasters, the correct actions to take during a disaster, and the steps to follow afterward, while also answering students’ questions.

Mayor Ömer Eşki also attended the lesson, sitting at the desks alongside students and highlighting the importance of disaster awareness.

Mayor Eşki: “We Must Be Prepared for Disasters”

Mayor Eşki stressed that preparedness saves lives and said:

“The path to building a disaster-resilient city lies in raising informed individuals. It is very important that our children learn how to prepare before a disaster, how to act correctly during it, and what to do afterward. With these trainings, we aim to strengthen disaster awareness in Bornova from an early age.”

Through these trainings, the municipality aims to provide students with accurate information, raise awareness about disasters, and strengthen a more resilient urban structure. Bornova Municipality plans to continue educational activities to increase disaster awareness in the coming period.
