Long-Standing Problems in Atatürk Neighborhood Are Being Resolved

Bornova Municipality continues its efforts to improve urban comfort and quality of life throughout the district, and is now implementing two important transportation projects that Atatürk Neighborhood residents have been waiting for years. During a field visit to the neighborhood with relevant department heads, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki announced that they would resolve both the connection problem between 840th Street and Hürriyet Avenue, which has been awaiting a solution for 20 years, and the dangerous slope problem on Süleymaniye Avenue. Meeting with residents on site and listening to their requests one by one, Mayor Eşki received thanks from neighborhood residents.

20-Year Wait Between 840th Street and Hürriyet Avenue Comes to an End

Mayor Ömer Eşki inspected the planned improvements on site to facilitate transportation for Atatürk Neighborhood residents and stated that action had been taken simultaneously at both locations. First examining the project to be carried out in the steep and narrow area between 840th Street and Hürriyet Avenue, Eşki said they would shorten a journey that had become a long-standing hardship for local residents.

Both Aesthetic and Safe Transformation on Süleymaniye Avenue

The next stop for Mayor Ömer Eşki and his technical team was Süleymaniye Avenue. Action has been taken to prevent accidents on the steep roads located on the upper and lower sections of the avenue. The unused area, which in the past was mistaken for a road by vehicle and motorcycle drivers and consequently caused accidents, will be transformed into an aesthetically designed staircase equipped with drainage channels and handrails, allowing older residents to walk safely.

Mayor Eşki: “We Are Fulfilling the Requests Our Residents Have Been Waiting for Years”

Speaking about the two-part transportation initiative in Atatürk Neighborhood, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki summarized the projects and residents’ requests as follows:

“Transportation between 840th Street and Hürriyet Avenue in Atatürk Neighborhood was normally very difficult. There had been a request here for 20 years. We will connect these two areas with a staircase to be built in this narrow section. The staircase will be completed very soon. With this project, we will fulfill the request of our residents here. Instead of having to take long routes to cover short distances, we will provide our residents with direct access via a staircase.

Again, in Atatürk Neighborhood, there are steep areas and old stairways above and below Süleymaniye Avenue. Residents have been requesting stairs, handrails and drainage channels here for years. Our teams have started working on this. We know that many motorcycles have been involved in accidents here and that many cars have accidentally entered the area because it was mistaken for a road. We will install handrails and build a comfortable, attractive staircase so that our older residents can reach these areas without getting tired while walking. We will finally resolve a problem that has been waiting for a solution in this area for years.”
