Social Media and Digital Communication Training within the Mukhtars Academy

The training program for neighborhood heads (mukhtars), organized under the “Bornova Mukhtars Academy (Participatory/Inclusive Governance Approach and Communication Training for Bornova District Mukhtars)”—a collaboration between the Bornova District Governorship, Bornova Municipality, Yaşar University, and the Bornova Mukhtars Association—continues.

As part of the program held at the Nevzat Kavalar Cultural Center Council Hall, mukhtars received training titled “Effective Social Media Management and Digital Communication.” The session was delivered by Dr. Simge Gökbayrak Yelken, a faculty member from the Faculty of Communication at Yaşar University.

A Digital Communication Guide for Mukhtars

During the training, participants were informed about the proper and effective use of social media platforms, digital communication during crisis situations, and ways to strengthen communication between public institutions and citizens through social media.

Dr. Simge Gökbayrak emphasized that digital communication is not merely about using technology, highlighting the importance of accurate and strategic communication in new media. She noted that new media is not just a technological tool, but a communication space shaped by interaction, creativity, and social awareness. She also underlined that producing accurate content, maintaining transparent communication, and sharing reliable information are critical responsibilities for public administrators.

A Six-Month Training Program

Launched in November 2025, the “Bornova Mukhtars Academy” aims to enhance mukhtars’ participation in local governance processes and improve their ability to use digital tools effectively in communication with citizens.

The program will continue with a “Digital Literacy” training session scheduled for March 25 and is planned to be completed by the end of April.
