Job Description

a) Cooperate with public institutions and organizations as well as non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to protect and improve the environment and to raise awareness on environmental and zero waste issues; prepare and implement plans and projects in this regard.
b) Conduct research and development activities and collaborate on projects aimed at recovering all waste types under the responsibility of district municipalities within the scope of zero waste.
c) Ensure and manage the separate collection of packaging waste and all recyclable or recoverable waste originating from residential and commercial areas across the district.
d) Manage the operation of the Municipality’s 1st Class Waste Collection Center (WCC).
e) Organize promotional and informational activities to expand packaging waste collection efforts throughout Bornova.
f) Monitor national and global policies on climate change mitigation and adaptation, and develop activities accordingly.
g) Carry out all activities based on scientific methods and adopt internationally accepted practices.
h) Participate in national and international networks related to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
i) Prepare or have prepared a Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) to implement actions at institutional (within the municipality) and urban levels for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building climate resilience; update the plan every two years and monitor its impact.
j) Conduct or have conducted research and preliminary feasibility studies for meeting the energy needs of existing and future municipal service buildings through renewable energy sources (e.g., photovoltaic systems, solar power plants), and prepare or have prepared relevant projects for suitable cases.
k) Develop and promote projects in cooperation with representatives from other public institutions, universities, industry, and NGOs at the district level.
l) Prepare a strategic plan and performance program and carry out activities in line with the set objectives and targets.
m) Ensure the implementation of decisions made by the Personal Data Protection Committee regarding the department's operations and processes.
n) Submit application forms prepared by the department and petitions requested from relevant persons for pre-approval by the Personal Data Protection Committee in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Law.
o) Carry out regular scanning and destruction of personal data contained in physical files and digital systems.
p) Monitor and implement actions and activities conducted within the internal control system framework.

FIELD OF ACTIVITY

Within the borders of Bornova Municipality:

a) In accordance with the "Regulation on the Control of Packaging Waste", to carry out and supervise the necessary activities for the separate collection, transportation, sorting, and recycling of packaging waste at the source.

b) To organize promotional and informative activities and programs to expand the packaging waste collection efforts throughout Bornova.

c) In line with the "Regulation on the Control of Waste Batteries and Accumulators", to carry out and supervise the necessary activities for the recovery of waste batteries and accumulators through separate collection at the source.

d) In line with the "Regulation on the Control of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment", to carry out and supervise the necessary activities for the recovery of waste electrical and electronic equipment through separate collection at the source.

e) In accordance with the "Regulation on the Control of Waste Vegetable Oils", to carry out and supervise the necessary activities for the recovery of waste vegetable oils through separate collection at the source.

f) In accordance with the "Zero Waste Regulation", to carry out and supervise the necessary activities for the separate collection, transportation, and disposal (in facilities licensed by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change) of expired household pharmaceutical waste within the district.

g) To ensure the regular collection, transportation, and disposal of recyclable waste (such as clothes/textiles) generated within the district in accordance with the relevant legislation; to conduct research on this matter, offer solutions, and work in coordination with relevant units during implementation.

h) To ensure the operation of the first-class waste collection center owned by our municipality at Kemalpaşa Street No: 238, where citizens can bring their waste (paper, cardboard, plastic, metal, glass, textile products, batteries, accumulators, electrical and electronic equipment, pharmaceutical waste, waste vegetable oils), which is then sorted by type and directed to recycling.

i) To evaluate and respond to all written and verbal complaints and requests regarding separately collected packaging waste, batteries, accumulators, electrical and electronic waste, vegetable waste oils, pharmaceutical waste, and textile waste, and to work on resolving any problems.

j) To prepare a Zero Waste Management Plan for packaging waste in accordance with the relevant legislation and to carry out the necessary work in line with this plan.

k) To record the waste tonnages by category for the waste types it is responsible for and to regularly input this data into the Zero Waste Information System of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.

l) To conduct awareness activities to increase Zero Waste consciousness, and to organize projects and provide training within this scope.
