Healthy Smiles Start in Serintepe

Bornova Municipality has launched a comprehensive oral and dental health education initiative at its Children’s Play and Activity Centers to support children’s healthy development. The training sessions and screenings, initially held at the Serintepe Children’s Play and Activity Center by the Directorate of Health Affairs, will be expanded to all 10 centers across the district.

Hands-On Education Initiative at All 10 Centers

Bornova Municipality has launched a meaningful health screening and education program to help children develop proper self-care habits from an early age. Teams from the Directorate of Health Affairs met with young children attending Bornova Municipality’s Children’s Play and Activity Centers to highlight the importance of oral and dental health.

Launched at the Serintepe Children’s Play and Activity Center, the initiative will soon be implemented at all 10 centers across the district, reaching hundreds of children.

Toothbrushing Techniques Explained with Fun Models

As part of the event, Dentist Esra Özatay conducted the children’s initial dental checkups and taught them the essentials of proper oral care. Using models designed to capture the children’s interest, she demonstrated how to choose and use the right toothbrush and toothpaste. She also explained the vital role of brushing teeth at least twice a day in preventing tooth decay.

The children enjoyed the fun and interactive session and had the opportunity to overcome their fears by asking the dentist questions about anything they were curious about.

Expanding Education from Activity Centers to Schools and Neighborhoods

Bornova Municipality is extending these preventive healthcare services beyond its own activity centers. The educational initiative, which aims to raise children’s health awareness, will soon reach schools and neighborhoods throughout the district, bringing its benefits to an even wider audience.

“Our Children’s Health Is Our Greatest Responsibility”

Emphasizing the importance of preventive healthcare, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki said:

“We closely monitor not only the education but also the physical development and health of our children, who represent the guarantee of our future. We are expanding the oral and dental health education initiative launched in Serintepe to all 10 of our activity centers across the district.

“Helping children develop proper toothbrushing habits at an early age will prevent many health problems they might otherwise face later in life. By extending these educational activities to our schools and neighborhoods, we will ensure that no child in Bornova is left without a healthy smile. I would like to thank all the healthcare professionals who contributed to this initiative.”
