Continuous Bakery Inspections by Mayor Eşki

23 June 2025

"We’re in the field to ensure safe bread reaches the tables of Bornova’s people"

Bornova Municipality continues its early-morning bakery inspections to ensure residents have access to healthy food. In the latest round of checks, which included the participation of Mayor Ömer Eşki, 10 bakeries were inspected and penalties were issued to those violating hygiene regulations. Mayor Eşki emphasized that inspections would continue without interruption.

Bornova Municipality is intensifying its efforts to ensure residents can access safe and hygienic food. In the most recent inspections—carried out with the participation of Mayor Ömer Eşki—bakeries in the neighborhoods of Çamkule, Merkez, and Zafer in Altındağ, as well as in Yeşilova and Karacaoğlan, were closely examined.

10 Bakeries Inspected at 4:00 a.m.

Starting at 4:00 a.m., inspections were carried out by teams from the Licensing and Municipal Police Departments, accompanied by a food engineer. A total of 10 bakeries were evaluated for production conditions, licensing status, and bread weight compliance. Businesses found violating regulations were penalized. Hygiene-related issues were reported to the District Directorate of Agriculture.

Mayor Eşki: “No Break in Inspections”

Mayor Ömer Eşki, who directly participated in the inspections, made the following statement:

“We have resumed bakery inspections. This is not a one-time effort—it will continue on a regular basis. We conducted checks in Altındağ’s Çamkule, Merkez, and Zafer neighborhoods, as well as in Yeşilova and Karacaoğlan. Unfortunately, we observed hygiene problems in around 60% of the establishments.

On a positive note, the last bakery we inspected, run by Memduha Şahin, was exceptionally clean. We were pleased to see such standards and congratulate her.

These inspections will continue until all our local businesses meet proper standards. Together with our licensing officers, municipal police, and food engineer, we will do everything we can to ensure food safety for the people of Bornova.”

133 Bakeries Inspected Since December 2024

Since launching its inspection initiative in December 2024, Bornova Municipality has inspected a total of 133 bakeries across the district. Mayor Eşki, who personally participates in all inspections, continues to stress the vital importance of healthy and hygienic food production for public health.
