Cleaning Efforts Never Stop in Bornova

27 January 2026

24/7 uninterrupted service despite industrial load and a large, constantly moving population

The Bornova Municipality Department of Cleaning Services carries out uninterrupted cleaning operations 24 hours a day in three shifts across 45 neighborhoods, 4,002 streets, and 17 industrial zones. An average of 650 tons of household waste and 35 tons of bulky waste are collected daily, while hourly “trash taxi” services are provided in Küçükpark and Süvari Street. Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that they work day and night to keep Bornova clean despite its highly mobile population.

The Bornova Municipality Department of Cleaning Services operates 24/7, seven days a week to keep the district—busy at all hours due to industrial areas, universities, commercial centers, and social spaces—clean and livable.
The work is carried out in three shifts: 07:00–15:00, 15:00–23:00, and 23:00–07:00, starting before dawn and continuing without interruption.

45 neighborhoods and 4,002 streets cleaned every day
Within Bornova’s district boundaries, 4,002 streets in 45 neighborhoods and 17 industrial zones are cleaned regularly every day by cleaning crews. Waste is collected daily from 10,186 garbage containers across the district. As part of daily operations, an average of 650 tons of household waste and 35 tons of bulky waste such as furniture are collected and disposed of.

Street sweepers, trash taxis, and vacuum trucks in service
Bornova’s main arteries and streets are cleaned not only by field personnel but also by 10 street-sweeping vehicles. In Küçükpark and Süvari Street—among the district’s liveliest areas with numerous cafés and restaurants—hourly trash taxi services help prevent environmental pollution. Places of worship such as mosques, cemevis, and churches are also cleaned periodically. In addition, vacuum truck and sewer unclogging services are provided throughout the district by the Cleaning Services teams.

A major operation with 320 staff and 70 vehicles
All these services are carried out by a strong team of 320 personnel and 70 vehicles. Maintenance, repair, and cleaning of vehicles, as well as the maintenance and hygiene of garbage containers, are performed regularly at the Cleaning Services Depot.

Mayor Eşki: “We keep up with Bornova’s high pace”
Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki noted that the district is one of İzmir’s busiest areas not only due to its resident population but also because of its industrial, commercial, and social activity, which significantly increases daily population movement.

Stating that Bornova is a district that lives, works, and produces from early morning until late at night, Mayor Eşki said:
“Due to industrial zones, universities, hospitals, business centers, and social areas, our daily population far exceeds the resident population. Being fully aware of this intensity, we continue our cleaning services day and night. Our goal is to ensure that Bornova residents live in a clean, healthy, and orderly environment. I would like to thank all my colleagues who contribute to this great effort.”
