Meaningful 29 October Cultural Trip from Bornova Municipality

As part of the Republic Day Week, Bornova Municipality brought together children and women at the Belkahve Ata Memorial House. Participants had the opportunity to explore artifacts from the Turkish War of Independence and experience the history of the Republic up close. Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that the goal of the event was to ensure that people of all ages in Bornova truly feel the values of the Republic.

Within the celebrations of the 102nd anniversary of the Republic, Bornova Municipality organized special visits to the Belkahve Ata Memorial House—one of the symbolic locations of the War of Independence. Children aged 4–6 from the municipality’s Children’s Play and Activity Centers came together with women who produce at the Urban Gardens in this special event.

Participants explored historical items and publications from the War of Independence period in Belkahve—where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk first laid eyes on İzmir. Both the children and the women learned more about the history of the Republic while enjoying a memorable experience prepared by the municipality.

Learning and Celebrating Together

During the visit, the children engaged in conversations about Atatürk and the War of Independence with their instructors, while the women had the opportunity to experience the historical atmosphere firsthand and learn more about Bornova Municipality’s community-support initiatives. The day concluded with cheerful moments and lots of souvenir photos.

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki highlighted the significance of the Republic Day Week activities:
