Mayor Eşki: “We Will Bring Asphalt to 282 Streets”

Continuing his neighborhood visits and field inspections without interruption, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki met with residents in Yıldırım Beyazıt Neighborhood, the heart of Çamdibi. Walking through the area street by street, Eşki inspected ongoing roadworks, listened to the concerns and requests of residents and local shopkeepers throughout the day, and later joined mosquito-control spraying operations in response to residents’ complaints.

The latest stop on Mayor Ömer Eşki’s neighborhood tour was Yıldırım Beyazıt Neighborhood. Touring the streets of Çamdibi, he examined ongoing road renewal works on site and met with residents. Visiting local businesses, sharing tea, and chatting with citizens, Eşki listened to their suggestions and demands. Later in the evening, he joined mosquito-control efforts and monitored the operations alongside municipal field teams.

Mayor Eşki was accompanied during the visit by Yıldırım Beyazıt Neighborhood Headwoman Mürvet Dinsever and representatives of the municipality’s relevant departments.

Interlocking Paving Stones Are Becoming a Thing of the Past

Mayor Ömer Eşki stated that efforts to resolve long-standing infrastructure and road problems in the Çamdibi area have accelerated. He noted that interlocking paving stones, which have caused moisture problems in building foundations during rainy weather, are being removed and replaced with asphalt.

Addressing residents during the inspection, Eşki said:

“We are in one of İzmir’s most special areas—Çamdibi, specifically Yıldırım Beyazıt Neighborhood. One of Çamdibi’s biggest problems has been these interlocking paving stones that we are now removing. Rainwater was seeping into building foundations and causing serious dampness issues. We had promised to remove these stones and replace them with asphalt. Following the asphalt paving works initiated by the Metropolitan Municipality on Burak Reis Street, we are now moving into 282 surrounding streets. We started with this area first. Our teams are continuing their work, removing the paving stones street by street and replacing them with asphalt. It may take more than a year, but we are determined to complete the entire project.”

Goal: Safer and More Comfortable Streets

As part of a phased program across the Çamdibi area, Bornova Municipality teams are removing worn interlocking paving stones and resurfacing streets with asphalt. Once completed, the works will improve road safety while also helping prevent moisture and infrastructure problems caused by rainwater.

Immediate Response to Residents’ Concerns

Taking into account residents’ complaints about increased mosquito activity during the summer months, Mayor Eşki also visited nighttime inspection points and met with spraying teams, wishing them success in their work. He emphasized that the municipality will continue to remain actively present in the field to improve the quality of life for all Bornova residents.
