A proud visit with achievements from Turkey and the world
Mayor Eşki welcomed successful students and rewarded them with tablets

Students from Bornova who achieved significant results in national and international competitions visited Ömer Eşki together with their mothers. National athlete Beren Aksoy, who holds several Turkish championship titles, and İsmail Sinan Tursun, who won a bronze medal in the Copernicus Mathematics Olympiad and qualified for the Global Finals in New York, shared their achievements with the mayor. At the end of the visit, the students were presented with tablets as gifts.

Students who have proudly represented Bornova with their achievements in national and international events visited the mayor to share their happiness. During the visit, the young athlete and aspiring scientist were congratulated, and Bornova Belediyesi presented them with tablets in recognition of their success.

Mayor Ömer Eşki said:

“These success stories emerging from Bornova give us hope. We will always stand by our children who move forward guided by the light of sports and science. Their determination, disciplined work, and the support of their families set an example for all of us.”

Success from trampoline to podium: Beren Aksoy

National athlete Beren Aksoy, a student at Bornova Ferit Bahriye Ergil Ortaokulu, has brought pride to Bornova, İzmir, and Türkiye with her achievements in the Girls Youth C category. Her results include:

• 1-Meter Springboard Türkiye Champion

• 3-Meter Springboard Türkiye Champion

• Platform Discipline Türkiye Runner-up

• Synchronized Diving Türkiye Runner-up

She also represented Türkiye successfully in the 1-Meter Springboard discipline at the Sofia Diving Cup held in Sofia between 8–15 July 2025, finishing third in the Girls Youth D category.

Attending the visit with her mother Nur Aksoy, the young athlete said her goal is to achieve even greater success internationally and raise the Turkish flag on the podium. Her mother added:

“This success is the result of disciplined work and belief. Seeing such support in Bornova motivates us even more.”

A mathematical journey from Bornova to New York

İsmail Sinan Tursun, who lives in Bornova’s Serintepe Mahallesi and studies at İzmir Kız Lisesi, drew attention with his achievements in mathematics. Competing in the preliminary stage of the 5th Copernicus Mathematics Olympiad, which included participants from nearly 30 countries, he won a bronze medal and qualified for the Global Finals in New York.

Visiting Mayor Eşki with his mother Gülümser Tursun, İsmail Sinan said his interest in mathematics began at a young age:

“Representing my country in an international final is a great honor.”

His mother added:

“Success is not a coincidence; it comes through effort, patience, and family support. The attention shown by our municipality has given us strength.”

At the end of the visit, Mayor Ömer Eşki presented tablets to the successful students and emphasized that the municipality’s support for sports and education will continue to grow.

“On one hand we have national championships, and on the other a mathematical success reaching world finals. This picture shows Bornova’s potential. We will continue to stand by our children with all our resources so they can achieve their dreams.”
