Turkey’s “Most Student-Friendly Municipality”

Bornova Municipality was selected as the “Most Student-Friendly Municipality” at the “İzmir’s Best of 2025” awards ceremony organized by İzmir Sınav Educational Institutions, in recognition of its strong support for education and youth-oriented initiatives. Mayor Ömer Eşki received the award from İlker Sümer. In his speech, Eşki emphasized that Bornova is a city that embraces young people and delivered a message to students: “Do not be afraid in the face of difficulties, and do not give up on your country.” The ceremony was attended by academics, representatives of civil society organizations, and athletes.

First place determined by students’ votes

Bornova Municipality was chosen as the “Most Student-Friendly Municipality” at the “İzmir’s Best of 2025” awards organized by İzmir Sınav Educational Institutions. Mayor Ömer Eşki accepted the award from İlker Sümer, Founder Representative of Sınav Educational Institutions. Determined by the votes of students, teachers, and parents, the award stands as a significant indicator of Bornova’s education, culture, and social support projects aimed at young people.

Mayor Eşki: “Bornova is a city that embraces young people”

Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor Ömer Eşki recalled his personal connection to Bornova, saying, “I came to this city 21 years ago as a university student. Bornova is a very special city, home to people who embrace young people, support them, and show sensitivity and loyalty.” Addressing the youth, he added, “Do not give up in difficult times. Remember the first word of our National Anthem, ‘Do not be afraid.’ Do not give up on this country; struggle with hope,” receiving great applause from the audience.

Prominent figures attended the ceremony

During the event, Mayor Eşki met with notable figures such as YTE Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran, TEMA Foundation İzmir Provincial Representative Özcan Gökoğlu, Atatürk Provincial Public Library Director Veli Caner, and National Athlete Ayşe Begüm Onbaşı. The program concluded with the presentation of awards to individuals and institutions contributing to education and social development.
