Bornova’s Seniors Meet Artificial Intelligence

17 March 2026

Seniors benefiting from the Healthy Aging Center received training on smartphone and AI use

Participants of the Bornova Belediyesi Healthy Aging Center—affectionately referred to as “plane trees” (çınarlar)—took part in an artificial intelligence training designed to help them build a stronger connection with technology. The training, held at the Prof. Dr. Türkel Minibaş Gençlik Merkezi, gave participants the opportunity to explore and use AI applications via their smartphones.

“What if your phone could answer you?”

During the training, participants were shown examples of how artificial intelligence can assist in daily life. The session began with engaging questions such as:

“What if your phone could respond to you? What if it could suggest recipes, remind you of your medication times, help you write messages to your grandchildren, and patiently explain anything you are curious about?”

This approach attracted great interest from participants. It was emphasized that no technical expertise is required and that seniors can easily step into the digital world with curiosity and their smartphones.

AI applications installed on phones

In the interactive session led by instructor Nesim Levi, participants were shown step by step how to download AI applications onto their smartphones. The training also highlighted how AI makes access to information easier, while emphasizing important digital security precautions.

Participants were specifically reminded not to share personal information such as ID numbers, bank account details, or financial data with AI applications under any circumstances.

An enjoyable and educational experience

Throughout the training, participants had the chance to explore new technologies and ask questions. The interactive nature of the event created an enjoyable atmosphere, allowing attendees to experience firsthand how artificial intelligence can support everyday life.
