Applications to prestigious international competitions and new steps in sister city relations were unanimously approved at the July Council Meeting.

The July Ordinary Council Meeting of Bornova Municipality was held in the council chamber inside Nevzat Kavalar Cultural Center. At the meeting, chaired by Council Deputy Chairman Tansel Ertürk, important motions strengthening Bornova’s vision projects and sisterhood ties were unanimously approved.

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki stated that the decisions made at the July council meeting contribute to the district’s vision.

Yeşilova Mound on the Path to Europa Nostra

Bornova Municipality is preparing to apply to the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards with Yeşilova Mound, one of the district’s iconic heritage sites. In the application, which will be carried out jointly by the Foreign Relations Department and the Museum Department, Mayor Ömer Eşki was authorized to oversee all procedures following the unanimous council decision.

Smart City Vision on the Global Stage

With its Digital Twin-Based Smart City Operations Center project, Bornova will apply to the World Smart City Awards 2025. Mayor Ömer Eşki was once again authorized to lead the application processes for this prestigious and internationally recognized competition. The application will be prepared in collaboration between the Foreign Relations Department and the Information Technology Department.

Symbol of Cultural Solidarity: "Hopa Sisterhood Park"

A motion to name a park in Evka-3 Neighborhood as "Hopa Sisterhood Park" to symbolize community solidarity and sisterhood was approved by the council.

A New Bond of Friendship Between Anatolia and İzmir

The establishment of a sister city relationship between Afyonkarahisar’s Başmakçı Municipality and Bornova Municipality was unanimously approved. This initiative aims to strengthen cultural, social, and economic cooperation between the local governments.

Mayor Eşki: “We are bringing Bornova’s values to a universal level”

With the decisions taken at the July session of the Bornova Municipal Council, steps were taken to showcase the district on the global stage both culturally and technologically. Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that these decisions contribute to Bornova’s vision, stating:
“By preserving our historical heritage, we are introducing it to Europe; we are using technology to make urban life easier; and we are growing solidarity and sisterhood through both symbolic and concrete actions. We are preparing Bornova not only for today but also for the future.”
He highlighted that such initiatives, which bring local values to international platforms, will further strengthen the visibility of Bornova’s cultural and technological leadership.
