Geographical Indication Registration for Lucien Arkas Vineyards

Bornova Municipality continues its determined efforts to promote the Bornova Misket Grape, one of İzmir’s most valuable cultural and agricultural heritage products, to the world. As part of this vision, Lucien Arkas Vineyards in Torbalı has earned the right to use the Bornova Misket Grape Geographical Indication Logo. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki visited the vineyards and presented Monreve Group Founder Merve Arkas with a certificate of appreciation.

Lucien Arkas Vineyards, which submitted its first application to use the Bornova Misket Grape Geographical Indication Logo in 2024, successfully passed the 2026 inspection process and retained its right to use the registered logo this year as well.

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki, accompanied by his wife Beste Eşki and relevant municipal administrators, visited Lucien Arkas Vineyards in Torbalı. Presenting a certificate of appreciation to Merve Arkas, Founder and Chairwoman of Monreve Group, for pioneering this production that will be passed on to future generations, Mayor Eşki emphasized that they would work shoulder to shoulder with local producers to take the Bornova Misket brand to the global stage.

A Flavor Bridge from Bornova to Torbalı

The Geographical Indication Logo, registered following years of meticulous work by Bornova Municipality, is proudly displayed at vineyards that produce the grape in accordance with its traditional characteristics. Visiting the vineyards in Torbalı and carrying out a symbolic harvest, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki said:

“Our goal is to first introduce Bornova’s unique cultural heritage to İzmir, then to Türkiye, and ultimately to the entire world. Powered by its distinctive aroma, Bornova Misket will undoubtedly earn the place it deserves in global markets.”

Another Major Step Following the Urla Vineyard Route Association

Bornova Municipality recently established new cooperation and solidarity networks by meeting with 11 local producers who are members of the Urla Vineyard Route Association as part of its efforts to expand and protect the production network of the Misket grape.

Following this important meeting in Urla, Bornova Municipality turned its attention to Torbalı, adding another strong link to the registered network through Lucien Arkas Vineyards, which successfully completed the geographical indication inspection process. These inspections, which raise the standards of local production, help ensure that Bornova Misket is preserved and passed on to future generations in its authentic form.

Expressing his gratitude for visionary partnerships that contribute to the historical journey of the Bornova Misket Grape, Mayor Ömer Eşki personally presented Merve Arkas, Founder of Monreve Group, with a certificate of appreciation.

Mayor Eşki concluded by stating that the municipality would continue to stand behind local producers and make every effort to bring the registered Bornova Misket brand to the global stage.
