A Grand Gathering in Büyükpark on World Environment Day

As part of World Environment Day on June 5, Bornova Municipality organized a comprehensive festival in Büyükpark featuring an environmental march, a recycling fashion show, award ceremonies, workshops, and panel discussions. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki pledged to leave a greener and more sustainable Bornova for future generations. The day-long celebrations concluded with an environmental panel and closing ceremony attended by prominent figures, including author Buket Uzuner and political scientist Ömer Madra.

Committed to the goal of a cleaner and more sustainable world, Bornova Municipality hosted a vibrant World Environment Day Festival in Büyükpark. Filled with eco-friendly activities, educational workshops, and colorful performances, the event brought together residents of all ages. Running continuously from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the festival spread environmental awareness from the heart of Bornova throughout the city.

Children’s Recycling Fashion Show Captivated the Audience

The festivities began in the morning with an enthusiastic Environmental March attended by a large number of students. Following the march, kindergarten children took to the stage and impressed the audience with a Recycled Clothing Fashion Show, featuring outfits made from waste materials. The creative designs received enthusiastic applause from spectators.

Mayor Eşki: “Our Promise to the Future Is Investing in the Environment”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki highlighted the importance of environmental investments and awareness initiatives:

“Today, we are not simply celebrating; we are renewing our promise to leave a green Bornova where future generations can breathe freely. Guided by the motto ‘A Breath for the Future, a Green Festival for Bornova,’ we are fostering environmental awareness through recycling, art, theater, and educational panels. We will continue working with all our strength to make Bornova a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable city.”

Awards Presented to the Most Beautiful Balconies and Gardens

Following the opening speeches, environmentally conscious residents who contributed to beautifying Bornova were recognized during an award ceremony. Winners of the district-wide “Most Beautiful Balcony and Garden Competition” received their awards on stage.

Art and Theater United for Nature

The award ceremony was followed by the parody theater performance “Speaking of the Environment,” which both entertained audiences and encouraged reflection on environmental pollution. Visitors also enjoyed a piano recital by Sibel Edikli, while the festival grounds hosted the striking “Anthropocene Stories Exhibition” prepared by photographers from the FAH Project.

Workshops and a Major Environmental Panel

The Environment-Themed Workshops and Activities attracted significant interest, particularly from children and young people. Numerous educational stands featured recycling workshops and hands-on environmental activities.

As part of the festival, a World Environment Day Panel was held with the participation of author Buket Uzuner, political scientist Ömer Madra, and photographers from the FAH Project. Discussions focused on the climate crisis and current environmental challenges.

The highly successful environmental festival concluded with a closing and appreciation ceremony.
