Clean energy era begins with hybrid poles installed in parks

Bornova Municipality has started meeting the energy needs of lighting and security systems entirely through renewable sources with hybrid poles that combine wind and solar energy in public parks. The system also offers free charging facilities and has the capacity to provide uninterrupted service during emergencies and disasters. Saying, “We are building the city of the future today,” Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki introduced the project by presenting a model of the hybrid pole to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel during the opening of the Doğanlar Urban Garden.

Bornova Municipality has introduced innovative hybrid energy poles that combine wind and solar power into the city through a new project launched in public parks. Implemented with a sustainability and environmentally friendly energy vision, the system will meet the lighting and security needs of parks entirely through renewable energy sources.

The hybrid poles can generate an average of 6 kW of electricity daily. They consist of a turbine capable of producing energy even at low wind speeds (1000 Wh at 11 m/s wind speed) and solar panels with a capacity of 1250 Wh. This ensures uninterrupted and balanced energy production throughout the day.

Energy and social benefits together in parks

The hybrid poles not only generate energy but also provide free charging opportunities through integrated charging stations. Residents can conveniently charge their electric wheelchairs and mobile devices within park areas.

In addition, thanks to the built-in 3.8 kWh battery system, the poles can continue operating during possible disasters and emergencies, providing critical infrastructure support without interruption.

First installations completed, new locations on the way

Within the scope of the project, hybrid poles are planned to be installed at five locations in the first phase. Installations have already been completed and activated at Abide-i Hürriyet Park, Doğanlar Urban Garden and Çamdibi Atatürk Park. Installations at Güney Temiz Park and Kıbrıs Park are expected to be completed within the week.

Ömer Eşki stated that the hybrid poles are an important part of Bornova’s energy vision and said:

“Cities today must not only consume, but also produce. In Bornova, we are implementing a system that draws energy from nature, meets its own needs and benefits its citizens. This is not just a lighting project; it is a model for the city of the future.”

Eşki also highlighted the significance of the project last week by presenting a model of the hybrid pole to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel during the opening ceremony of the Doğanlar Urban Garden.
