Bornova Misket Grape Carried into the Future with Its Geographical Indication Logo

The registered Bornova Misket Grape, a symbol of Bornova’s rich history and agricultural heritage, has been taken to a new level through the successful efforts of members of the Urla Vineyard Route Association. The grapes cultivated by association members have been officially certified as meeting the high quality, aroma, and production standards established under the product’s geographical indication registration. Following meticulous evaluations and inspections, the producers who submitted applications were granted permission to use the Bornova Misket Grape Geographical Indication Logo.

Cultural Heritage Comes to Life on the Urla Vineyard Route

The applications finalized in line with Bornova Municipality’s vision of supporting local production and protecting geographically indicated products marked a major milestone for regional agriculture. Bornova Misket Grapes produced by members of the Urla Vineyard Route Association, combining traditional and scientific methods, received full marks in laboratory and field inspections. This certification once again demonstrated that this unique heritage of Bornova is being preserved authentically and passed on to future generations in the most accurate way possible.

Mayor Eşki: “We Will Protect the Rich Heritage of These Lands to the Very End”

Following the successful completion of the process, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki visited the Urla Vineyard Route Association and met with producers. Inspecting the production areas and touring the vineyards, Mayor Eşki discussed with producers the strategic efforts being undertaken to expand Bornova Misket Grape production, promote it on a global scale, and increase its brand value.

Emphasizing Bornova’s historical heritage during the visit, Mayor Ömer Eşki said:

“We have a history that is as beautiful as Bornova’s young people, as sweet as its children, and as deep-rooted as its elderly residents. Our goal is to increase the production of this heritage product as much as we can and make it a classic flavor in Bornova as well. I personally love its grape juice, and we also serve this unique juice alongside coffee to guests who visit our municipality. Our greatest dream is to one day see Bornova Misket Grape products served in every café and restaurant across the city. I would like to sincerely thank our association president, above all, and everyone who has worked so hard over the years to preserve the existence of the Misket grape. These are among our most precious cultural heritage assets. The more we protect these values and give them the recognition they deserve, the more significant and valuable we become ourselves. That is why we will continue to protect this heritage to the very end.”

Certificates of Appreciation Presented to Producers

At the end of the program, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki presented certificates of appreciation to members of the Urla Vineyard Route Association for their efforts in preserving, promoting, and carrying Bornova Misket Grape into the future in its authentic form. With the authorization to use the geographical indication logo, the aim is for Bornova Misket Grape to achieve the economic and cultural value it deserves in both national and international markets.
