Bornova Remembers Those Who Lost Their Lives in the Ship Accident in the TRNC

Bornova Municipality organized a lokma charity at Cyprus Park in Atatürk Neighborhood to commemorate those who lost their lives in the tragic maritime accident that occurred in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on August 30. TRNC representatives, local officials, and many citizens attended the event and prayed for those who lost their lives.

Bornova Municipality did not forget those who lost their lives in the passenger ship accident that capsized while sailing from Kyrenia to Mersin, plunging all of Türkiye into mourning. The commemoration ceremony held at Cyprus Park in Atatürk Neighborhood was attended by Alpbuğra Bahadır Gültekin, Deputy Consul of the TRNC in İzmir; Nurettin Akbuğa, Mayor of Tuzlukçu, Konya; representatives of political parties; the district mufti; neighborhood heads; and many concerned citizens. During the deeply moving ceremony, the Qur’an was recited, prayers were offered for those who lost their lives in the tragic accident, and lokma was distributed to the crowd.

Mayor Eşki: “The Pain of Cyprus Is the Pain of Bornova”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki, who met with citizens during the lokma distribution and offered his condolences, expressed their deep sorrow over the tragedy. Emphasizing unity and solidarity, Eşki said:

“The pain of Cyprus is the pain of Bornova; it is the pain of all of Türkiye. Just as we have done before, we will stand shoulder to shoulder and overcome these difficult days together.”
