Mayor Eşki: “Our doors are always open to Balkan municipalities”

As part of the goal of building a “stronger Bornova,” Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki hosted Rosoman Mayor Stojan Nikolev of North Macedonia, along with his deputies and officials, at Dramalılar Mansion. During the meeting, the parties discussed potential projects for cultural, artistic, and economic cooperation between Bornova and Rosoman, located in the Tikveš region near the Greek border. Both sides emphasized that stronger ties between local governments would bring mutual benefits.

“I felt at home”

Highlighting that he is the mayor of a city with a large population of Balkan immigrants, Mayor Eşki underlined the importance of cultural and economic cooperation with Balkan municipalities. Referring to his visit to Macedonia in previous years, Eşki said:
“During my visit, I had the chance to meet warm, friendly, and Turkish-friendly people in every city. I truly felt like I was walking through the streets of Izmir.”

Expressing his pleasure at hosting Mayor Nikolev, Eşki added:
“Our doors are always open to our friendly and brotherly municipalities in the Balkans. Bornova is home to many citizens with Balkan heritage whose relatives still live in the region. That’s why we attach great importance to our ties with the Balkans. We exchanged ideas to create opportunities for cooperation and held a very productive meeting. I thank them for their visit.”

Stating that he would be pleased to host Mayor Eşki in Rosoman, Mayor Nikolev said:
“I was aware that Bornova had established partnerships with many municipalities across the Balkans. Seeing it with my own eyes during this visit was very valuable. We had the opportunity to discuss possible areas of cooperation during our meeting. I thank Mayor Eşki for his warm hospitality.”
