Bornova Municipality has installed high-pressure water spray systems on its water tankers to enable faster and more effective intervention in forest fires as the summer season approaches. Mayor Ömer Eşki stated that, in addition to supporting the fire department by supplying water with tankers during firefighting efforts, this high-pressure system will also help in extinguishing and cooling stages. The first of the new vehicles has been put into service, with plans to increase the number to three in a short time.

New System for Water Tankers

As the risk of forest fires rises with the approaching summer months, Bornova Municipality has accelerated its preparations. To respond quickly and efficiently to fires, the municipality is equipping its water tankers with high-pressure water spray systems, making them more functional. Mayor Eşki, who tested the first intervention vehicle, announced plans to increase the fleet to three in the near future.

“We are taking precautions before the fire starts”

Highlighting the approaching high-risk period for fires, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki commented on the preparations:

“As you know, summer unfortunately means forest fire season. None of us want such a disaster to happen, but we must take precautions.

To enable rapid response to fires, we are installing high-pressure water spray systems on our water tankers. Similar to the systems used on TOMA vehicles by the Police Department, these trucks will be able to spray strong, pressurized water over long distances and also perform cooling operations.

We have commissioned our first vehicle today, and we will increase the number to three soon. Our main goal is to control fires before they grow and to support firefighting teams. I am proud to present this project, carried out jointly by our Transportation and Parks and Gardens Directorates, to the people of Bornova.”

Local Action, Big Impact

Thanks to the newly equipped vehicles, Bornova Municipality will be able to reach fire scenes much faster. These vehicles can be used not only for forest fires but also as first-response and cooling units for frequent brush fires in parks, gardens, and vacant lots.
