Mayor Eşki Calls for Protection of Nature

Bornova Municipality’s innovative use of water tankers equipped with TOMA-type high-pressure spraying systems to combat forest fires has received full marks from both the public and officials. This initiative, which highlights the role of local governments in disaster preparedness, has become a model for other municipalities.

In response to the increasing number of forest fires, Bornova Municipality integrated high-pressure TOMA-type spraying systems into three water tankers, showcasing a pioneering approach in environmental and disaster management that has garnered widespread acclaim.

Praise from Deputy Governor and AFAD Director

İzmir Deputy Governor İsmail Çorumluoğlu and İzmir AFAD Provincial Director Nazif Ekinci visited the Directorate of Technical Services to inspect the project on-site. They received detailed information about the tankers from Mayor Ömer Eşki and municipal staff and emphasized the significance of the project.

Deputy Governor Çorumluoğlu stated:
“Bornova Municipality's sensitivity and technical preparedness in disaster response is truly commendable. This is an exemplary approach for all local governments.”

AFAD Director Ekinci added:
“Systems like this are crucial for rapid and effective disaster response. This investment by Bornova Municipality strengthens not just the district, but the entire İzmir region.”

Mayor Ömer Eşki noted that the water tankers have been successfully used in recent fires, stating:
“Our goal is not only to respond to fires but also to protect Bornova’s natural environment and preserve life. Thanks to these systems, our initial response time has shortened, and our effectiveness has increased.”

Eşki also highlighted the recent establishment of the Bornova Municipality Search and Rescue Team (BAK), emphasizing greater preparedness against disasters:
“Disasters affect us all. That’s why we must act with collective wisdom and solidarity. We will continue to do our part.”
