Following a vandalism incident, enhanced security measures have been introduced; CCTV surveillance begins across all markets.

After a vandal attack in the İnönü Neighborhood, Bornova Municipality initiated a comprehensive effort to increase safety and protect public spaces in all marketplaces across the district. In addition to repairing the damaged areas, the municipality acted swiftly to make all marketplaces more secure and controlled. During his visit to inspect the completed work, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that attacks on public property are not only against the municipality but also against all citizens of Bornova.

Swift Response After the Incident

The attack at the İnönü Neighborhood marketplace resulted in severe damage to administrative areas and restrooms, and vandalistic graffiti was found on the walls. Bornova Municipality teams promptly intervened by enclosing the area, replacing doors, and repainting the entire space to restore it for public use.

Security Measures Extended to Çamdibi

Similar precautions were taken at the indoor marketplace located within the Çamdibi Şehit Er Adem Bilaloğlu Complex, as well as at the Atatürk Neighborhood Marketplace. Entry and exit points were reorganized to ensure public safety on non-market days. Emergency exits were replaced, and new door systems were installed to remain locked except on designated market days.

Mayor Eşki: “We will protect public spaces together”

During his on-site visit, Mayor Ömer Eşki met with citizens and local vendors to listen to their concerns and suggestions. He emphasized that vandalism is not just an attack on municipal property, but an offense against the whole community:

“We took immediate action after the disgraceful attack in the İnönü Neighborhood. But this wasn’t just a repair—it marked the beginning of a new approach. We view marketplaces not only as commercial areas but as social centers that are part of public safety. We are increasing monitoring, access control, and security at all market locations. The peace and safety of Bornova residents is our top priority.”

Expanding a District-Wide Security Network

Following the improvements in İnönü, Atatürk, and Çamdibi neighborhoods, Bornova Municipality has expanded security and renovation efforts to all marketplaces across the district. Entry and exit regulations are being implemented, CCTV-supported systems are being installed, and deterrent measures against vandalism are being adopted. Additionally, the municipality is conducting regular inspections in cooperation with local vendors.
