Digital and Communication-Focused Training for 45 Neighborhood Heads with University Support

The Bornova Mukhtars Academy, launched last December through the collaboration of Bornova Municipality, Bornova District Governorship, Yaşar University, and the Bornova Mukhtars Association, continues its training programs without interruption. Considered one of the few examples of its kind in Turkey, the academy’s latest session was hosted at Yaşar University.

Hands-On Computer and Internet Training

The “Basic Computer and Internet Use” course was delivered by Dr. Mert Seven, faculty member at Yaşar University, and conducted practically in the university’s computer lab. Mukhtars gained knowledge on how to use digital tools more effectively in delivering public services.

Joint Appreciation from Mukhtars

Zeki Güler, President of the Bornova Mukhtars Association and Mukhtar of Çiçekliköy Neighborhood, stated that they had completed the fourth session of the academy. He noted that they had previously gained significant skills in diction, public speaking, and meeting management. Güler expressed gratitude to all institutions contributing to the project.

“Knowledge Is Valuable at Any Age”

Mukhtars emphasized that the academy has strengthened their communication skills, helped them address areas where they felt insufficient, and enabled them to transform their training into higher-quality services in their neighborhoods. They also highlighted that receiving education in a university setting increased their motivation.

Pointing out that mukhtars serve as the first point of contact for citizens, they stressed the responsibility of maintaining strong communication and providing accurate guidance. They underlined that effective use of technology is now a necessity and stated that the trainings would further strengthen the bond between the state and citizens.

Mayor Eşki: “A Strong Mukhtar Means a Strong Neighborhood”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that the Mukhtars Academy is a highly significant initiative that strengthens local democracy.

“Our mukhtars becoming stronger through knowledge, communication skills, and digital competence directly reflects on our neighborhoods. A strong mukhtar means a strong neighborhood. As Bornova Municipality, we will continue to stand by our mukhtars,” he said.

Comprehensive Six-Month Training for 45 Mukhtars

Within the scope of the Bornova Mukhtars Academy, a total of 45 neighborhood mukhtars will receive six months of training under the following topics:

• Digital Literacy

• Basic Computer and Internet Use

• Effective Social Media Management and Digital Communication

• Online Meetings and Data Security

• Public Speaking, Listening, and Note-Taking Techniques

• Effective Meeting and Time Management

• Public Relations and Effective Communication

• Diction, Oratory, and Persuasion Skills
