Dry Vegetation Cleared, Pruning Waste Collected and Recycled into Compost for a Greener Future

As summer approaches, the Bornova Municipality Parks and Gardens Directorate has carried out extensive maintenance and cleaning operations across the district. The initiative aims to reduce potential fire risks, prevent environmental pollution, and make public spaces safer for residents. As part of the effort, dry vegetation was removed, while branches and leaf waste left by residents along roadsides and next to waste containers were collected.

Dry grass in neighborhoods, medians, sidewalks, and vacant lots was cleared using trimming equipment, eliminating both visual pollution and potential fire hazards during the hot summer months. Municipal teams worked simultaneously in multiple locations to preserve the city’s appearance and improve residents’ quality of life.

Waste Is Returned to the Soil Instead of Being Discarded

The pruning waste, dry branches, and other plant materials collected during the cleaning operations are being recycled through sustainable practices. Organic waste separated by Bornova Municipality is transformed into compost and fertilizer for use in parks, gardens, and agricultural areas.

This approach not only reduces the amount of waste sent to disposal sites but also helps conserve natural resources, representing an important step toward a greener and more sustainable city.

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized the importance of preventive measures against the increased risk of fires during the summer season:

“We continue to carry out regular maintenance and cleaning work throughout every corner of our city. By removing dry vegetation and collecting pruning waste, we are enhancing environmental safety while reducing fire risks. At the same time, we return the organic waste we collect back to nature through recycling practices, in line with our commitment to environmental sustainability. We will continue working with determination for a cleaner, safer, and greener Bornova.”

Preventive Measures Will Continue Throughout the Summer

Bornova Municipality teams will maintain uninterrupted cleaning and maintenance operations throughout the summer, particularly in areas with elevated fire risks due to rising temperatures. Residents are also encouraged to act responsibly regarding environmental cleanliness and to avoid leaving plant waste in random locations.
