Haluk Işık Presents “Zübeyde’s Son, Mustafa”

Bornova City Talks continued with an event featuring playwright and director Haluk Işık, who narrated the life story of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk from the perspective of his mother, Zübeyde Hanım, based on his book “Oğlum Mustafa” (My Son Mustafa). The talk evolved into an art-filled atmosphere enriched with poetry readings and a piano performance.

The story of a nation brought to life through a mother’s voice

Bornova City Talks carried on with a compelling event hosted by Bornova Municipality at the Uğur Mumcu Culture and Arts Center Multi-Purpose Hall. During the talk, Haluk Işık shared excerpts from his book “Oğlum Mustafa,” recounting Mustafa Kemal’s life journey—from his childhood to becoming the leader of a nation—through the eyes of Zübeyde Hanım.

Beginning with the words, “His name was first Mustafa; later, he was engraved in the heart of a nation as Mustafa Kemal Atatürk,” the narration created deeply emotional moments in the hall. It was emphasized that the work is not merely a story of heroism, but rather highlights a mother’s love, hope, and the human dimension of a century-long journey.

Poetry, music, and conversation came together

The program was hosted by Gamze Cantürk and moderated by İbrahim Aktaş. The event gained further depth through poetry interpretations by Fatma Aras, Kemal Kantar, Tuğçe Yerdelen, and Buket Işıkdoğan. Pianist Seçil Saykan accompanied the evening with a piano recital, enriching the atmosphere and offering the audience an evening filled with art.

Participants stated that the event—blending literature, history, and the powerful narrative of the mother–child bond—made a significant contribution to Bornova’s cultural life.
