Stating that they would keep the spirit of theater alive on the Çamdibi, Büyük Park and Tiyatro Peron stages, Mayor Eşki shared his excitement for the new season, saying, “Keep coming to see us. The excitement of theater in Bornova will never end; soon, we will bring a modern prestige stage to our city that everyone will be proud of.”

Bornova Municipality City Theatre (BBŞT) officially opened its new theater season with an enthusiastic gathering. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki met with BBŞT’s artists and technical team at the opening of the new season and announced to theater lovers in Bornova that the curtains would remain open.

During the new season, as the Uğur Mumcu Culture and Art Center building enters a reconstruction process, BBŞT performances will continue to meet audiences uninterrupted at three different locations across the city.

Theater Curtains Will Remain Open on Three Different Stages

Emphasizing that theater lovers from Bornova and İzmir would not be deprived of theater during the construction process, Mayor Ömer Eşki announced the new venues where BBŞT will continue its artistic activities throughout the season:

  • Ayfer Feray Open-Air Stage: Bornova’s iconic open-air stage, located in Büyük Park.
  • BBŞT Theater Academy Building: The academy hall in Çamdibi, which also serves as a center for theater education.
  • Tiyatro Peron: A private stage established by a respected theater educator who was trained within BBŞT and went on to contribute to the city’s artistic life.

The Veteran Stage Will Make Way for a Modern Arts Complex

The Uğur Mumcu Culture and Art Center, which has hosted more than 4,000 performances and helped train countless artists since its establishment, is closing its doors to make way for a modern arts complex worthy of the city.

Speaking for the final time from the historic theater hall during the new season gathering, Mayor Ömer Eşki said:

“Many of our children were introduced to art for the first time in this building and graduated from here. Now, through a joint decision, we will bring a prestige stage to Bornova and İzmir that truly befits our city. We will begin the demolition very soon and build a modern stage in its place that everyone will be proud of. In our new building, we will enjoy some of the finest theater productions in Türkiye together.”
