Another Road Problem Solved in Bornova

6 October 2026

The Slope That Was Çamkule Neighborhood’s Nightmare Is Now Safe

As part of its district-wide road construction and renovation campaign, Bornova Municipality has addressed a dangerous location in Çamkule Neighborhood that had been awaiting a solution for years. Due to its steep gradient, 4718 Street posed a serious safety risk to pedestrians, particularly during rainy and freezing weather in winter. Following specialized concrete paving works, the street has now been made completely safe. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki inspected the works on site together with his technical team and Çamkule Neighborhood Headman Nesim Yaşar, stating, “We will remain in the field until there is not a single street left in Bornova where transportation is difficult or walking is dangerous.”

Winter Nightmare Is Over: Safe Access for Pedestrians

Bornova Municipality’s Directorate of Technical Affairs carried out comprehensive works on 4718 Street in Çamkule Neighborhood, which posed a significant risk to residents, particularly during the winter months due to its steep terrain. The slope, which is closed to vehicle traffic because of its extreme gradient but is widely used by neighborhood residents, was covered with specially designed surface concrete to prevent slipping during rainy and icy weather. With this critical improvement, the risk of falls and injuries for children, older residents and all neighborhood residents has been eliminated, bringing pedestrian safety to the highest level.

Mayor Eşki: “The Safety of Our Citizens Is Our Red Line”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki, who closely followed the works together with municipal officials, department representatives and the neighborhood headman, emphasized their determination to provide equal and high-quality services to every part of Bornova. Mayor Eşki said:

“4718 Street in our Çamkule Neighborhood had become a real ordeal, particularly during the winter months, due to its steep terrain. The safety of our residents who had to walk here in rainy and icy weather was seriously at risk. As Bornova Municipality, our priority is the well-being and safety of our citizens. We immediately intervene in problems that make people’s lives more difficult and threaten their safety. In line with the planning we carried out together with our headman and technical teams, we completed modern and durable concrete paving works on this street. Residents of Çamkule will now be able to walk home safely rather than with concern during the winter months. We will continue to resolve, one by one, all of Bornova’s long-standing problems.”

Headman Nesim Yaşar and Residents Thank the Municipality

Çamkule Neighborhood Headman Nesim Yaşar and neighborhood residents, who breathed a sigh of relief following the completion of the works, expressed their satisfaction that a long-standing request had been addressed so quickly. Thanking Mayor Eşki and the Bornova Municipality teams who worked tirelessly on site, Headman Yaşar said:

“This slope was a major danger, especially for our older residents and children during the winter. Our Mayor heard our concerns and solved the problem in a short time. On behalf of our neighborhood, we would like to thank him very much.”
