Animal Companions Find New Homes with Loving Families
Following a request from the Rector of Ege University and an instruction from the Bornova District Governor, 83 animal companions transferred from the university campus training area to Bornova Municipality’s Animal Companions Campus have found new homes.
Thanks to the contributions of various animal rights organizations, particularly the Ege University Animal Rights Society, which had cared for the animals with dedication, the adoption process was completed swiftly. Of the dogs, 32 were returned to their existing owners, while the remaining 51 found new families. Their pet passports were prepared, microchipping procedures were completed, and they were sent off to their new homes.
Recalling that Bornova Municipality has defended animals’ right to life since the relevant legislation was first introduced, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki said: “We have proudly taken on the responsibility that comes with those innocent eyes. We are delighted that all 83 animal companions in our care have been able to move into new and safe homes in such a short time. I sincerely thank all our partners, especially the university students who made tremendous contributions, as well as everyone who advocates for animal rights.”
A Welcome Relief for Animal Lovers
Following these developments, carefully coordinated efforts both safeguarded the animals’ health and brought relief to animal lovers. After the 83 dogs arrived at the Animal Companions Campus, their health was examined by expert veterinarians, and the necessary procedures were completed promptly. All passport registrations and official paperwork for the dogs were handled by Bornova Municipality.
Mayor Eşki: “We Have Not Compromised on the Right to Life, Not Even by an Inch”
Emphasizing that the process had been managed transparently and sensitively from the outset, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki had previously issued the following statement:
“Neither the evacuation decision nor the invitation for law enforcement officers to come to the university was a decision made by Bornova Municipality. Our role here was simply to take responsibility for providing a safe haven for these innocent animals. We have not deviated even an inch from our commitment to animal rights. From the very first day, we have spoken out against the amendments to Law No. 5199 that seek to separate our street animals from us. The lives of these animals are a matter of conscience and a responsibility we must uphold. We will never abandon them to loneliness and helplessness.”
Animal Lovers Express Their Gratitude
Animal lovers who closely followed the process, particularly the Ege University Animal Rights Society, expressed great satisfaction with Bornova Municipality’s transparent, sincere, and protective approach. Seeing the animal companions begin their new lives in safe, loving homes brought joy to everyone involved and crowned the solidarity that guided the entire process.
