Exhibition at Yeşilova Mound brings ancient heritage together with contemporary art

Hosted by Bornova Municipality, the “Ancient Safari” Interdisciplinary Exhibition, held at the Yeşilova Mound Visitor Center, has met with art enthusiasts. Bringing together artists from various disciplines, the exhibition reinterprets traces of antiquity through the lens of contemporary art.

Featuring works by many artists—from Erhan Ayhan to Ezgi Çankaya, and from Melike Burcu Sarı to Mehmet Serkan Koçak—the exhibition invites visitors on a historical exploration. Prepared with the contributions of the D.A.S.T Interdisciplinary Art Collective, the exhibition stands out as a significant event that connects Bornova’s cultural heritage with art.

Efe Elmas: “The past gains new meaning in today’s art”

Speaking at a talk held as part of the exhibition, writer Efe Elmas emphasized—consistent with his previous discussions on the subject—that ancient heritage is not merely historical data but a living source of inspiration. Elmas stated:
“Ancient periods are an inexhaustible source for today’s artistic production. What matters is not to replicate this heritage as it is, but to reinterpret it in the language of our time.”

Highlighting that art is one of the strongest tools for building a bridge between the past and the future, Elmas noted the importance of interdisciplinary work in this context.
