An Inspiring Meeting with Prof. Dr. Üstün Dökmen in Bornova

Prof. Dr. Üstün Dökmen met with teachers, students, and parents at the conference titled “Quality Communication in the Family and at School,” organized by Bornova Municipality, where he explained the importance of communication in family and school life through concrete examples. Drawing strong interest from the public, Dökmen emphasized that mutual understanding is the foundation of quality communication. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki stated that they will continue to support such events that strengthen the culture of education and communication.

Organized under the coordination of Bornova Municipality’s Women and Family Services Directorate in cooperation with Radikal Schools, the conference was held at the Nevzat Kavalar Cultural Center with the participation of renowned psychologist, author, and television host Prof. Dr. Üstün Dökmen. The event attracted great interest from teachers, students, and parents, filling the hall to capacity.

“Communication is not a luxury; it is a life skill”

As he has often emphasized in his previous conferences, Üstün Dökmen once again highlighted that communication is the cornerstone of harmony within the family and success at school. During the Bornova meeting, he both entertained and encouraged participants to reflect.
His engaging presentation style—enriched with real-life examples and interactive moments involving the audience—was highly appreciated.

In his talk, Dökmen stressed that children should be given space to express their emotions; that parents should adopt a guiding rather than lecturing approach; that trust and respect are the keys to learning in teacher–student communication; and that family and school are two complementary pillars of a child’s development.

“Quality communication means trying to understand the other person before expecting to be heard. When we learn to understand one another, conflicts decrease and happiness increases both at home and at school,” Dökmen said, receiving prolonged applause from the audience.

Mayor Eşki: “We will continue to strengthen the culture of education and communication in Bornova”

Emphasizing the importance of the conference for Bornova’s educational environment, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki said, “The valuable contributions of Professor Dökmen are extremely meaningful to us. In Bornova, we will continue to carry out initiatives that enhance the communication skills of both families and teachers. Because effective communication is the foundation of a strong society.”
