A Transformative Touch to Zafer Avenue in Bornova
Mayor Eşki: “It will become one of Bornova’s most attractive destinations”
Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki inspected on site the visionary urban design and implementation project prepared for Zafer Avenue, one of the city’s busiest corridors. Touring the area together with the relevant department officials, Mayor Eşki explained the planned improvements to Bornova residents and said, “We are transforming Zafer Avenue into a vibrant, breathing urban space worthy of Bornova, both aesthetically and functionally.”
Bornova Municipality continues its efforts to reorganize pedestrian and vehicular circulation in the city center through a modern and environmentally conscious approach. The Zafer Avenue Urban Design and Implementation Project, which forms a critical connection between Mustafa Kemal Avenue and Süvari Avenue, will regulate both vehicle and pedestrian traffic while creating an aesthetically appealing public space that is sensitive to the environment and urban life.
Mayor Eşki: “We are building Bornova’s future through a shared vision”
Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki examined Zafer Avenue, where the project will be implemented, step by step together with his technical team and the relevant department officials. During the inspection, Mayor Eşki also met with local shopkeepers and residents, explaining the project in detail and listening to their requests.
Stating that they are working day and night to make every corner of Bornova more livable, aesthetic and safe, Mayor Eşki said:
“Zafer Avenue, which connects Mustafa Kemal and Süvari avenues, is located in the heart of our district and is one of the corridors with the highest pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The urban design project we have initiated here is not merely a road improvement; it is an identity project reflecting Bornova’s modern vision. Together with the relevant department officials, we inspected the site and evaluated the implementation stages of the project. Our aim is both to make the daily lives of our shopkeepers and residents easier and to create an ecological center that does not forget our animal friends on the streets. The satisfaction of our residents and the interest they have shown in our project are the strongest evidence that we are taking the right steps for Bornova. With its new appearance, Zafer Avenue will become one of Bornova’s most attractive destinations.”
Traffic Calming and Regulation: A Safe Solution for the School Zone
One of the most important components of the project consists of measures designed to eliminate traffic congestion along the avenue. Dedicated parking bays have been designed to prevent vehicles from parking randomly and disrupting traffic flow. Particularly in the school zone, an accessible and safe arrangement will be implemented to manage the temporary congestion experienced during school entry and exit hours. A continuous median strip along the avenue will ensure that traffic moves in a controlled, systematic and smooth manner.
Pedestrian Paths and Ground Design: A Geometric and Dynamic Identity
Sidewalks along Zafer Avenue are being completely renewed to provide pedestrians with a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing walking environment. Hexagonal paving modules in three different tones and colors have been selected for the sidewalks. Creating a three-dimensional visual effect, this geometric surface design will give the pedestrian corridor a dynamic, modern and aesthetic identity while enhancing Bornova’s urban character.
Ecological and Social Sensitivity: Our Animal Friends Have Not Been Forgotten
Bornova Municipality is also highlighting its commitment to the environment and urban life through sustainable urban furniture design. Specially designed water and food stations for stray animals, made entirely from recycled materials and integrated into the areas beneath trees, will be incorporated into the ground design. In this way, the needs of our animal friends on the streets will be addressed through an aesthetic detail that supports the urban ecosystem.
Lighting and Architectural Impact: A Safe Avenue Alive 24 Hours a Day
Another feature that will transform the appearance of the avenue will be its lighting system. High-quality, energy-efficient lighting elements integrated into the median areas will transform Zafer Avenue into a safe and visually rich urban space both day and night. While fully addressing the avenue’s urban circulation functions, the project aims to provide an environmentally conscious and aesthetically valuable spatial experience.
