An emotional iftar with families of martyrs and veterans

On the 105th anniversary of the adoption of the National Anthem, feelings of unity and gratitude came together at the same table in Bornova.

Bornova Belediyesi organized an iftar program for the families of martyrs and veterans. On the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the adoption of the İstiklal Marşı, all participants recited the anthem together, while a whirling dervish (semazen) performance added a meaningful atmosphere to the program. Ömer Eşki also attended the event, visiting each table to speak with the families of martyrs and veterans and sharing messages of unity and solidarity.

A gesture of gratitude for families of martyrs and veterans

The meaningful iftar program honoring martyrs’ families and veterans was held at the Dr. Sırrı Aydoğan Kültür Merkezi in the Atatürk Neighborhood. During the event, all participants enthusiastically recited the Turkish National Anthem together to commemorate its 105th anniversary.

The program, attended by many families of martyrs and veterans, gained further spiritual significance with the semazen performance. Mayor Ömer Eşki personally visited each table, speaking with the families and veterans.

During the program, Erdem Çerçioğlu, President of the Association of Martyrs’ Families and Veterans, presented flowers to Mayor Eşki. Burçin Dal, İzmir Provincial President of the Martyrs and Veterans Confederation, also presented him with a plaque.

“The National Anthem commands us not to fear”

Emphasizing that sharing the same iftar table with families of martyrs and veterans during the holy month of Ramadan was a great honor, Mayor Ömer Eşki delivered an emotional speech. He stated that they are aware that the pain of the families of martyrs and veterans never fades and described the National Anthem as one of the most powerful texts expressing the character and resilience of the nation.

Reminding the audience that the National Anthem begins with the word “Korkma” (“Do not fear”), he emphasized that this is one of the greatest commands given to the Turkish nation:

“Today we know that there are attacks from both inside and outside against our republic, our unity, and all the national values for which blood has been shed and lives have been sacrificed. But following the command we take from the National Anthem, we will never be afraid. Everyone who loves this country, this land, and its flag must stand together in unity and solidarity. The path drawn by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is the strongest guide for this nation. No one can defeat a nation walking on this path.”

At the end of his speech, Mayor Eşki thanked the families of martyrs and veterans:

“We are grateful that you share this blessed Ramadan table with us. Your sacrifice can never be repaid. As your brother and son, I will always try to stand by your side throughout my life.”
