Gender Equality Training for Municipal Staff

As part of its local equality policies and institutional capacity-building efforts, Bornova Municipality organized a Gender Equality (TCE) Training program for its staff. The training was held at the Nevzat Kavalar Cultural Center Council Hall.

Goal: Equitable Public Service Delivery

The training aimed to strengthen an equality-based approach in the delivery of public services and to enhance the knowledge and awareness of municipal personnel regarding gender equality. The program addressed the concept of gender, the reflection of inequalities in daily life and institutional structures, and the responsibilities of local governments in this field.

Seher Gündoğan: “Equality Improves the Quality of Public Services”

The training was delivered by Seher Gündoğan from the İzmir Women’s Solidarity Association. Gündoğan emphasized that gender equality is not solely a women’s issue but a fundamental human rights matter that improves the quality of life for society as a whole.

Highlighting the importance of internalizing gender equality within public institutions, Gündoğan stated that public services delivered from an equality perspective are more inclusive, fair, and accessible. She underlined that the role undertaken by local governments in this area is critical for broader social transformation.

Mayor Eşki: “Equality-Based Municipal Governance Is Indispensable”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki drew attention to the importance of the training, stating:

“Gender equality is one of the fundamental pillars of democratic and socially responsible municipal governance. As Bornova Municipality, we base both our institutional structure and the services we provide on the principle of equality. Strengthening our personnel’s awareness in this field is an essential part of our goal to build a more just and inclusive city.”

Certificates Presented to Participants

At the end of the training program, certificates of participation were awarded to municipal staff who attended. Bornova Municipality aims to continue its training and awareness-raising efforts to further strengthen gender equality in the coming period.
