Regular meetings with neighborhood heads strengthen participatory governance in Bornova

Bornova Municipality is reinforcing participatory governance through its regular Regional Mukhtar Meetings, where it directly listens to the needs of neighborhoods and produces solutions. Emphasizing that mukhtars act as a bridge between citizens and the municipality, Mayor Ömer Eşki said: “We are building a stronger Bornova together with our mukhtars.” These meetings enhance service quality while ensuring swift responses to problems.

In order to strengthen cooperation with mukhtars—the most fundamental elements of local democracy—Bornova Municipality organizes Regional Mukhtar Meetings. Coordinated by the Directorate of Mukhtar Affairs, these meetings bring together mukhtars and senior officials from the Directorates of Public Works, Cleaning Services, Parks and Gardens, Municipal Police, and Veterinary Services, enabling them to share issues, requests, and suggestions directly concerning their neighborhoods.

Problems resolved quickly
Held monthly across five different regions covering Bornova’s 45 neighborhoods, these meetings allow mukhtars to directly convey citizens’ expectations. Thanks to this initiative, problems are prioritized, work plans are revised, and solutions are implemented more rapidly.

Highlighting the importance of strong communication with mukhtars, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki said:
