A Shield Against Sun and Rain in Bornova

2 August 2026

Protecting Both Motorcycle Couriers and Residents

Following the establishment of the Motorcycle Courier Park to ease traffic congestion in Küçükpark, Bornova Municipality has installed protective canopies over temporary courier waiting areas in the town center and over ATMs at the Çamdibi Covered Marketplace. Inspecting the completed works on site, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that the project enhances daily life by protecting both motorcycle couriers and residents waiting in line at ATMs from the scorching summer sun and harsh winter rain.

Providing Comfort for Couriers in Küçükpark

Bornova Municipality had previously introduced a groundbreaking solution to traffic congestion in Küçükpark, one of İzmir’s busiest social and youth hubs, by establishing Türkiye’s first large-scale Motorcycle Courier Park within Tümgeneral Mehmet Suphi Kula Park in Kazımdirik Neighborhood.

Building on that initiative, the municipality has now taken another step to improve working conditions for couriers actively serving the area. Modern shade structures have been installed above the temporary courier waiting areas located in the heart of Küçükpark, where restaurants and cafés are concentrated.

Relief for Residents Waiting at ATMs in Çamdibi

Extending its people-oriented municipal services throughout the district, Bornova Municipality has implemented a similar project at the Çamdibi Covered Marketplace, a location frequently used by local residents.

Those waiting in line at ATMs will now be protected from extreme weather conditions, whether during the intense heat of summer or the heavy rains of winter, thanks to the newly installed protective shelters.

Mayor Eşki: “We Will Continue Solving Every Problem That Makes Daily Life More Difficult”

Inspecting the completed works, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki said:

“We are here next to the Çamdibi Marketplace. As you know, we experience extremely hot days during the summer, just like today, while winters are often very rainy. This is an area where many local residents come to use the ATMs. Until now, people had to wait under the scorching sun in summer or in the rain during winter. That is why we have installed protective canopies over the ATMs to shield our citizens from both the sun and the rain. I hope this will be beneficial for everyone.”

Speaking about the new shelters for motorcycle couriers in Küçükpark, Mayor Eşki added:

“Our efforts are not limited to Çamdibi. We have also created a similar level of comfort in Küçükpark, the vibrant heart of Bornova. We previously established a central Motorcycle Courier Park at Tümgeneral Mehmet Suphi Kula Park. However, we also observed that couriers waiting at temporary pickup points in central Küçükpark were exposed to intense summer heat and heavy winter rain. We have now covered those temporary waiting areas with modern shade structures. In this way, we have improved the working conditions and comfort of our couriers while also contributing to safer and more efficient delivery services. We will continue addressing every issue that makes daily life more difficult in Bornova, one by one.”
