Strategic Move by Bornova Municipality with İZKA Support

Bornova Municipality is preparing a Spatial Analysis Report and Urban Design Guide for the Bornova Urban Conservation Area with funding from the İzmir Development Agency (İZKA). The six-month project aims to provide scientific input to the area’s Conservation-Oriented Zoning Plan. Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that preserving historical heritage is the greatest investment for the future.

Bornova Municipality launched the project titled “Preparation of Spatial Analyses and Urban Design Guide for the Conservation-Oriented Zoning Plan of Bornova Urban Conservation Area”, which was awarded funding under İZKA’s 2024 Urban and Spatial Studies Technical Support Program.

Meeting with academic participation

The project, jointly managed by the municipality’s R&D Department and Planning and Project Department, was officially launched with an opening meeting attended by Çağdaş Güneş (Specialist at İZKA’s Blue Growth Policies Unit), Prof. Dr. İpek Özbek and Prof. Dr. Nezihat Köşklük Kahya (Faculty of Architecture, Dokuz Eylül University), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şakir Çakmak (Faculty of Letters, Ege University), Bornova Deputy Mayor Özlem Ayan, and relevant municipal officials.

Spatial Analysis Report and Urban Design Guide

At the end of the six-month study, a detailed Spatial Analysis Report and Urban Design Guide will be prepared for the Bornova Urban Conservation Area. This will strengthen and update the region’s Conservation-Oriented Zoning Plan with scientific and technical data.
