The name of journalist and local administrator Güney Temiz, who passed away at a young age, will be immortalized with a park in Bornova that will be named after him on his birthday, May 31. The park, located in the EVKA-3 neighborhood, will also feature a bust in his memory. The naming of the park was unanimously approved by the Bornova Municipal Council, following a proposal by Mayor Ömer Eşki.

Güney Temiz, who died of a heart attack at a young age, will be commemorated on his birthday, May 31, with the dedication of a park in his name. The 10,500-square-meter park is situated at the intersection of 119/3 and 121st Streets in EVKA-3, where Temiz lived for many years. Fully renovated, the park will now be known as “Güney Temiz Park.” A bust honoring his memory will also be installed. The inauguration ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 31 at 6:00 PM.

A Journey from Journalism to Local Government

Güney Temiz began his political journey with the Republican People's Party (CHP) Bornova Youth Branch. Over the years, he held various roles including President of the Youth Branch of the Atatürkist Thought Association (ADD) Bornova Chapter, Press Advisor to the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), Head of Press for Karşıyaka Municipality, and Deputy Mayor. He was serving as the Head of the Press and Public Relations Department at Manisa Metropolitan Municipality when he died suddenly of a heart attack.

Mayor Eşki: “We have not forgotten Güney, and we never will.”

The proposal to name the park after Güney Temiz was submitted to the Bornova Municipal Council by Mayor Ömer Eşki and was unanimously approved.

Mayor Ömer Eşki, a long-time friend and colleague of Güney Temiz from their days in CHP Youth Branch, stated:

“Güney left a lasting impact both as a friend and as a professional. Honoring him on his birthday and keeping his name alive in the neighborhood where he lived is a duty of remembrance and gratitude for us. As Bornova, we will ensure that his name and memory live on forever.”

The newly named Güney Temiz Park includes modern playgrounds for children, large green areas, and urban furniture for relaxation, reflecting Temiz’s lifelong dedication to improving the quality of public spaces. The design of the park is a tribute to the values he stood for throughout his life.
