A New Era of Healthy Living Begins in Bornova
Healthy Aging Center Launches 2025–2026 Term with an Enthusiastic Ceremony
The new term at the Bornova Municipality Healthy Aging Center has begun with a vibrant opening ceremony. The number of residents benefiting from the center increased from 26 to 106 within one year, reflecting the growing interest of Bornovalılar in active and healthy living. Bornova also retained its place among the leading local governments in public health by earning the “Health-Promoting Municipality” title from the Ministry of Health for the third time.
Operating under the Bornova Municipality Health Affairs Directorate, the Healthy Aging Center welcomed the 2025–2026 term with an event filled with strong participation. The rapid rise in membership—from 26 to 106—clearly demonstrated the community’s enthusiasm for accessible and holistic well-being services.
Poetry, Marches, and Olive Saplings Mark a Meaningful Celebration
The ceremony was enlivened by a choir performance, poetry readings, and marches prepared by participants who completed last year’s program. Young Ayşe Ela Gültekin’s reading of the poem “10 Kasım” brought emotional moments to the hall, while Birsen Aktaş’s rendition of the Atatürk March received great applause. At the end of the program, the new term cake was cut, and participants were presented with olive saplings and Bornova Kınalı Okra seeds—symbolizing the union of healthy living with nature.
Bornova Earns “Health-Promoting Municipality” Title for the Third Time
Speaking at the ceremony, Bornova Deputy Mayor Duygu Bölük emphasized that Bornova Municipality has once again been awarded the “Health-Promoting Municipality” distinction by the Ministry of Health:
“Only eight municipalities in Türkiye hold this title. We are proud to sustain this achievement as Bornova.”
Bölük summarized the municipality’s inclusive health vision by stating:
“Health is not merely the absence of illness. It is the ability to improve every moment of life. The well-being of women, children, and our elderly citizens is our priority.”
An Active, Productive, and Healthy Life at Every Age
The Healthy Aging Center is one of Bornova Municipality’s key hubs for health-focused social services, aiming to support older individuals physically, mentally, and socially. The center’s team includes physicians, dentists, midwives, dietitians, physiotherapists, barbers, and caregiving specialists.
During home visits conducted in the first week of each month, residents’ health conditions are assessed on-site. Awareness programs are also carried out on chronic disease management, oral and dental health, women’s health, menopause, and physical activity.
Through these initiatives, Bornova Municipality aims not only to prevent illness but also to ensure that people of all ages lead more active, productive, and socially connected lives.
