Mayor Eşki Visited Bornova’s Elders in Their Homes

On February 14, Valentine’s Day, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki visited Gülera Yeniel and the couple Cavit and Nazile Baycan, who benefit from Bornova Municipality’s Home Care Services, in their homes. Spending time with Bornova’s respected elders and cutting cake together, Mayor Eşki promised to take Ms. Yeniel on a trip to Kordon and conveyed a message of loyalty and respect to the Baycan family, who are the relatives of a martyr. The families expressed their appreciation for the visit and thanked the municipality for its services.

Mayor Ömer Eşki marked Valentine’s Day with a meaningful visit to citizens receiving Home Care Services under the Municipality’s Directorate of Services for the Disabled and Elderly. Accompanied by relevant municipal officials and service personnel, he visited Gülera Yeniel as well as Cavit Baycan and his wife Nazile Baycan in their homes.

“We wanted to share Valentine’s Day with our elders”

During the visits in Birlik and Kazımdirik neighborhoods, Mayor Eşki showed close attention to the residents, kissed their hands as a gesture of respect, engaged in long conversations, and cut cake together with them. Sharing his thoughts during the visit, he said:

“Valentine’s Day is not only about flowers; it is a day of loyalty, compassion, and remembrance. Standing by our elders, who are the living memory of this city, and seeing a smile on their faces is our greatest happiness.”

A Promise for Kordon: “We will enjoy the sea air together”

Mayor Eşki paid special attention to 68-year-old Gülera Yeniel, a resident of Birlik Neighborhood who expressed difficulty leaving her home. He promised to take her on a trip to Kordon so they could enjoy the sea air together. This heartfelt gesture was warmly welcomed by home care recipients and their families. Birlik Neighborhood Headman Sami Akdağ also accompanied the visit.

Respect and Gratitude for a Martyr’s Family

Among those visited were 89-year-old Cavit Baycan and his 82-year-old wife Nazile Baycan, residents of Kazımdirik Neighborhood. Emotional moments were shared as the couple recounted the story of their son, Sadettin Baycan, who was martyred in 1993 while serving in the Turkish Air Force. He sacrificed his life to prevent his aircraft from crashing into the city center of Diyarbakır. Mayor Eşki emphasized that the families of martyrs are always held in the highest regard.

Bornova’s esteemed elders thanked Mayor Eşki and expressed their satisfaction with the services they receive through the home care program, including barber services, bathing assistance, physiotherapy, and wound dressing. The visit concluded with warm conversations and heartfelt moments of happiness.
