Disability Policies in Bornova Strengthened Through Collective Wisdom

The Bornova City Council Disability Rights Working Group paid a visit to Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki and presented the Disability Policies Workshop Final Report. During the visit, the problems and demands experienced by individuals with disabilities in Bornova were discussed, and Mayor Eşki emphasized that they will work in cooperation with the City Council to create an accessible and inclusive Bornova.

During the meeting, Bornova City Council President Attorney Doğan Baran Mengüç presented the Disability Policies Workshop Final Report to Mayor Eşki. The report comprehensively outlined the challenges faced by people with disabilities in daily life in Bornova, along with proposed solutions.

Demands of People with Disabilities Discussed in Detail

The meeting addressed issues at the local level such as accessibility, the arrangement of public spaces, transportation, participation in social life, and employment. The demands of individuals with disabilities and their families were shared directly, highlighting the importance of strengthening cooperation between local government and civil society.

City Council President Attorney Doğan Baran Mengüç thanked Bornova Municipality for its support during the workshop process and stated,
“Policies that make life easier for individuals with disabilities are only possible through a participatory and sincere local government approach. The Mayor’s attitude on this issue is extremely valuable to us.”

Expressing his satisfaction with the visit, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that improving the living standards of individuals with disabilities is one of the municipality’s core priorities.
“An accessible city is only possible through policies produced together. By working in cooperation with our City Council and Disability Rights Working Group in every field, we will remove barriers one by one in Bornova,” said Eşki, adding that the workshop outcomes will serve as an important guide.
