Waste Turned into Art, Awareness Turned into the Future

Bornova Municipality, in cooperation with the İzmir Ege Artı Derneği, organized a composting activity, educational program, and waste-to-art workshop at the Bornova Waste Collection Center to raise environmental awareness among individuals with Down syndrome and support their participation in social life. During the event, children both learned and enjoyed a productive and entertaining day.

Zero Waste Education Explained Through Practice

During the training sessions, children were introduced to the zero-waste approach, different types of waste, recycling, and the importance of waste separation at the source through simple and hands-on methods. The process of returning organic waste to nature through composting was explained, helping raise awareness about environmental impacts.

Creativity Encouraged Through Waste-to-Art Workshops

In the workshops, original artworks were created using recyclable materials. Through these activities, participants improved their manual skills and creativity while also learning about environmental protection, waste prevention, and sustainable living habits. At the end of the event, the artworks produced were presented as gifts to the special individuals by Bornova Municipality.

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized the importance of such initiatives, stating:

“While supporting the active participation of our individuals with special needs in social life, we also aim to instill environmental awareness from an early age. Through these activities, we protect nature while contributing to the development of our children.”
