Bornova’s Youngest Residents Plant 50 Olive Saplings

Bornova Municipality has launched a meaningful initiative to instill environmental awareness and an appreciation for agriculture in children from an early age. Organized by the Directorate of Agricultural Services, the project brought young students to the local seed center for ecological education, followed by the planting of 50 olive saplings in Karacaoğlan Neighborhood.

Discovering the Miracle of Seeds Firsthand

Bornova Municipality welcomed the nature lovers of tomorrow as part of its efforts to promote a sustainable future and pass environmental awareness from one generation to the next. As part of an event organized by the Directorate of Agricultural Services, young students visited the Ecological City Local Seed Center.

Accompanied by expert instructors, the children learned about the journey of a seed into the soil, the importance of heirloom seeds, and the vital role of protecting ecological balance. They enjoyed an educational day immersed in nature.

Putting Down Roots for the Future with Olive Saplings

Following their theoretical lessons, the children took their learning into the field and enjoyed an unforgettable hands-on experience. With the children’s participation, 50 olive saplings were planted in a designated afforestation area in Karacaoğlan Neighborhood.

The children were delighted and excited to give the saplings they had planted with their own hands their first watering. Thanks to this meaningful initiative, Bornova has gained a new olive grove that will grow with the care of its youngest residents and flourish into the future.

“Together with Our Children, We Will Lead Bornova Toward a Greener Future”

Emphasizing the importance of helping children build a connection with the soil from an early age, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki said:

“We place great importance on helping our children get their hands in the soil from an early age and develop an awareness of protecting nature. After learning about the importance of seeds and ecology at our Ecological City Local Seed Center, our children put down roots in the future of our district by planting olive saplings in Karacaoğlan Neighborhood. Every sapling planted by their little hands is a promise of a greener, more livable Bornova tomorrow.

“I would like to thank all my colleagues who contributed to this initiative. Together with Bornova’s children, we will build a green transformation.”
