Bornova Municipality recently hosted another meaningful event. Elderly residents from the Narlıdere Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center had the opportunity to explore Bornova’s historical, cultural, and natural landmarks. As part of the “Nature and Culture Tour with the Elders,” the guests visited Homeros Valley, the Ata Memorial House in Belkahve, and the Abide-i Hürriyet Square, enjoying a pleasant and memorable day.

Tea Break and Nature Time in Homeros Valley

The tour began at Homeros Valley, named after the legendary poet Homer, believed to have lived in the 8th century BC. Renowned for its natural beauty and hiking trails, the valley offered the guests a chance to enjoy a serene environment. Surrounded by nature, they chatted over tea and took in the peaceful atmosphere.

A View of İzmir from Belkahve

After Homeros Valley, the group headed to Belkahve, where they admired a panoramic view of İzmir. Belkahve holds historical significance as the point where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk first gazed upon İzmir during the Turkish War of Independence. The guests visited the Ata Memorial House and reflected on Atatürk’s legacy.

A Cultural Pause at Abide-i Hürriyet Square

The final stop of the tour was Abide-i Hürriyet Square, a cultural space recently established by Bornova Municipality. Named after the “Monument of Liberty,” which symbolizes the declaration of the Second Constitutional Era and the struggle for freedom, the square served as a meaningful space where past and present connected for the elderly participants.
