Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki conducted a field visit in Erzene Neighborhood, personally meeting with residents in the İzyuva area to identify their needs on-site. One of the primary requests from İzyuva residents—where access to shopping opportunities is limited—was the establishment of a market. This request was promptly addressed by İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay, who initiated efforts to open an İZMAR (İzmir Public Sales Market) in the area. At the same time, Bornova Mayor Eşki began working on opening a café to provide a space for community socializing.

Starting his day in İzyuva, Mayor Eşki was accompanied by Erzene Neighborhood Head Ayşe Müjgan Pakyürek and municipal bureaucrats from relevant departments as they toured the neighborhood. Mayor Eşki listened directly to the demands of the residents and identified suitable locations for new investments.

İZMAR Market and Café on the Way

Mayor Eşki and his team selected potential sites in the neighborhood for both the İZMAR market, to be opened in cooperation with the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, and a café. These projects aim to support the social and economic life of the area.

Stressing the importance of seeing problems firsthand and involving the public in the solution process, Mayor Eşki said:

“There was a clear demand from residents for a market. Together with our neighborhood head and citizens, we assessed the situation on-site. Our Metropolitan Mayor, Mr. Cemil Tugay, responded quickly to the community's request and began work on opening an İZMAR market in the area. Our goal is to improve quality of life.”

During his walk through the streets of Erzene, Mayor Eşki took note of both individual and neighborhood-wide requests from residents. In line with Bornova Municipality’s participatory and accessible governance approach, such field visits are planned to continue on a regular basis.
