The abundant harvest from the Solidarity Farm reaches residents through Kent Markets and Kent Lokantas

Bornova Municipality experienced the excitement of the first harvest at the 20-decare Solidarity Farm established in Yakaköy. The labor invested in the land is now transforming into abundance on the tables of Bornova residents in need. Tons of tomatoes, peppers and eggplants lovingly harvested from the farm are being delivered to residents through Kent Greengrocers, Kent Markets and Kent Lokantas, either completely free of charge or for nearly symbolic support amounts.

A production mobilization across 20 decares

Bornova Municipality transformed its 20-decare plot of land in Yakaköy into the Solidarity Farm to support local production and directly contribute to residents’ household budgets amid the deepening economic crisis. Tomatoes, peppers and eggplants carefully cultivated by the municipality’s agricultural experts and workers are harvested at the height of the season and made available to Bornova residents while fresh. The farm has effectively become the lifeblood of social solidarity across the district.

A helping hand reaching tables through symbolic credits and free offerings

The produce grown at the farm is made available through Kent Markets across Bornova, completely outside normal market conditions, allowing families in need to add the products to their baskets with a symbolic expenditure credit of just 0.1. The power of solidarity reaches an even greater level at Kent Lokantas. Residents who have their hot meals at these establishments are given special packages prepared with vegetables harvested from the Solidarity Farm completely free of charge.

Mayor Eşki: “The abundance from the people’s land is returning to the people’s tables”

Following the harvest activities in Yakaköy closely and sharing his vision for the project, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki stated that the foundation of their approach to social municipal services is protecting human dignity and sharing. He said:

“We do not want anyone in Bornova to feel alone or helpless. We could not leave these 20 decares of land in Yakaköy unused; we transformed it into a center of solidarity and sharing. We offer the tomatoes, peppers and eggplants we grow on our own farm through our own labor to our neighbors through our Kent Markets at virtually symbolic prices. At our Kent Lokantas, we distribute these fresh products in packages to our residents who come for a meal, completely free of charge. We are bringing the abundance produced from the people’s land back to the people’s tables. As Bornova Municipality, we will continue to stand by our residents under all circumstances and in every area, and to further strengthen solidarity.”
