Eşki and Lugavić Highlight a Shared Future

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki hosted a delegation from Tuzla, Bosnia-Herzegovina, delivering strong messages of cooperation in the fields of green energy, digital transformation, and technology production. Eşki shared Bornova’s goals of generating energy from solar, wind, and biogas sources, announcing that “Wind Trees” will be introduced to Turkey for the first time in Bornova. The Tuzla delegation, in turn, presented the city’s industrial and tourism potential.

Building strong ties with industry

Mayor Eşki emphasized that they hold regular meetings with industrial representatives in Bornova:

“We meet with the chairpersons and boards of industrial sites, assisting their operations and working to strengthen collaborations.”

Three sources of energy, aiming for zero carbon footprint

Explaining Bornova Municipality’s energy projects, Eşki underlined that they aim to use not only solar, but also a combination of solar, wind, and biogas resources for energy production.

“By generating electricity from three sources, we plan to move ahead in both energy and carbon emissions.”

A vision of local production for Wind Trees

Highlighting that Bornova will be the first to bring “Wind Trees” to Turkey, Eşki stated:

“We plan to produce them right here in Bornova. Once we reach our production capacity, we can also send samples to Tuzla.”

Transformation in three dimensions: digital, green, and urban

Mayor Eşki defined the municipality’s main objectives as digital transformation, green transformation, and urban transformation.

“Green transformation is one of our most critical goals. To keep nature clean, it is necessary to turn to renewable energy not only locally, but globally.”

“Bosnia-Herzegovina is our brother”

Eşki emphasized that relations with Tuzla go beyond technical cooperation:

“We don’t see Bosnia-Herzegovina as separate from ourselves. If we can be of help to them, that makes us even happier.”
He also stated that they would open the way for future sharing of technology and projects.

Tuzla showcases its industry and tourism

Tuzla Mayor Dr. Zijad Lugavić delivered a broad presentation covering the city’s industrial enterprises, cultural heritage, natural beauty, and tourism activities. Tuzla Canton Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Nedret Kikanović also shared insights on potential collaborations.

Strengthening cultural ties

At the end of the meeting, gifts were exchanged. Mayor Eşki presented the Tuzla delegation with a statue of Homer and guided them through the Historic Bazaar in Bornova’s city center, showcasing the district’s cultural heritage.
