Mustafa Kemal Avenue Renewed with Curb Machine

Bornova Municipality has started asphalt paving and sidewalk arrangements on Mustafa Kemal Avenue following infrastructure works, and for the first time in İzmir, a curb machine has been used. The machine lays 100 meters of curb per hour, reducing labor costs by two-thirds. Mayor Ömer Eşki inspected the works on site and placed an evil eye bead into the first curb produced by the machine.

Labor costs reduced by two-thirds

On Mustafa Kemal Avenue, one of the busiest streets in the district, Bornova Municipality has begun asphalt paving and sidewalk works in sections where infrastructure has been completed. For the first time in İzmir, a curb machine is being used, providing significant savings in both time and labor costs.

100 meters of curb per hour

With the new system, labor and costs for curb installation have been reduced threefold, while also saving significant time. The machine can lay 100 meters of curb per hour.

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki, along with relevant officials and unit supervisors, inspected the works on site. At the very first use of the curb machine, Mayor Eşki placed an evil eye bead into the freshly poured concrete and said, “May it be auspicious for Bornova.”

Mayor Eşki: “A system that will greatly ease our work”

Evaluating the works, Mayor Eşki said:
“We are here on Mustafa Kemal Avenue, in front of Hilal Necmiye Hüsnü Ataberk School. We are testing our curb machine, a first in İzmir, for the very first time. It will significantly ease our workload, eliminate the need for excess personnel, and speed up the process. Our curb machine moves forward quickly and automatically. We can implement long distances in a very short time. We are also placing an evil eye bead on the first curb produced by our machine. It will remain here permanently. May it be auspicious for Bornova.”

Mustafa Kemal Avenue will gain a brand-new look

Once completed, Mustafa Kemal Avenue will feature modern roads, sidewalks, and parking areas, transforming into a completely new space. Parking bays will be created on both sides of the road, while traffic will flow in two lanes, one in each direction. The removed iron barriers will be replaced with a median built from firebrick. Decorative lighting poles will be placed in the median, and with landscaping works, the avenue will gain a modern appearance.
