Meaningful visit to 8,500 years of history

Bornova Municipality organized a comprehensive cultural heritage and city tour for members of ÇÖYDER, featuring the city’s historical, cultural and natural treasures. Accompanied by expert guides, the special guests explored a route stretching from Yeşilova Mound to Homer Valley and embarked on an enjoyable journey through Bornova’s deep-rooted history. Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that they would continue working determinedly to build a fully accessible Bornova where no resident feels excluded from social life.

Bornova Municipality has undertaken another meaningful project in line with its commitment to social inclusion and socially oriented municipal services. In cooperation with the Directorate of Services for Persons with Disabilities and Older Adults and the Directorate of Cultural Heritage Preservation, a comprehensive guided cultural heritage and city tour was organized specifically for members of the Celiac Organic Nutrition and Life Association (ÇÖYDER) on September 3, 2026. Participants had the opportunity to closely explore Bornova’s thousands of years of historical roots, green spaces and cultural wealth.

Mayor Eşki: “Every value of Bornova will be accessible to everyone”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that increasing the participation of disadvantaged groups in social life has always been a priority. Stating that the city’s historical and natural heritage belongs to all Bornova residents, Mayor Eşki said:

“Bornova is the heart of İzmir and home to an immense 8,500-year-old history. Our responsibility is not only to preserve this rich heritage, but also to make it fully accessible to all segments of society. This tour with our ÇÖYDER members was the finest proof that we can overcome barriers through love and cultural connections. Under our newly established Directorate of Services for Persons with Disabilities and Older Adults, we will continue our determined efforts to build a fully accessible and inclusive Bornova where none of our residents feels excluded from social life.”

Historical sites and natural beauties of the city explored

Accompanied by expert guides and their informative presentations, participants embarked on a delightful journey through time. The tour began with visits to Abide-i Hürriyet Park and Cyprus Park, two of the city’s places to relax and enjoy nature. The group then visited Yeşilova Mound, which traces İzmir’s settlement history back to ancient times, where participants were informed about the archaeological significance of the site.

Finally, the association members enjoyed the fresh air of Homer Valley, which bears the traces of the legendary poet Homer, and witnessed the traditions and heritage of local culture at the Yörük Camp located within the valley.
